Tactile (touch) Sensing Technology
Research at the Harvard school of engineering
& applied science have developed tactile sensor for robotic hands. This
development made the brute(violent)machine as dexterous(clever) manipulator..
Technology used here is Tack Tile, it is expensive and it can’t be used for general
purpose. Now this technology has changes because initially it is based on
simpler techniques. It is an existing device- a tiny barometer which can sense
air pressure & adds a layer of vacuum sealed rubber to it in order to
product the device from 25 pounds of direct pressure.
This setup is enough to
sense the slight touch.
While we add it to mechanical hand of robot, it
knows what it is touching
Note: Tack tile device not only used in robotics
also in toy circuitry, medical equipments.. (being a engineer we have to find
various application for existing device thereby we can efficiently use the
products)
