How to increase the working life of an incandescent bulb?

In our home we can see that bulb get fused within a couple of months what will be the reason behind this.. that is simple
When the bulb is off the filaments resistance is cold resistance(low resistance than hot resistance..); if it is ON the filament resistance is Hot resistance
When we switch on the light the filament get heated heavily hence it get melted and broke down easily..
Let us think how to avoid this, just think what will happen if a diode is connected in series with the filament, the diode will act as half wave rectifier hence half of the power is delivered to the filament so the life of the bulb will increase(you must use this bulb ONLY ON AC SUPPLY)
NOTE: Problem is the brightness get reduced to half here is solution too.. use higher wattage bulb by replacing old one (e.g. 40W 100W )
