GFCI Outlet

How GFCI Outlet Works?

GFCI - Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, it is used to protect people from electric shocks. It is different from fuse.
There are two vertical slots and a round hole centred below them in the outlet.
The left slot is slightly larger than the right one.
The left slot is called "neutral", the right slot is called "hot" and the round hole is called "ground".
In normal working condition current will flow from hot to neutral.
The GFCI monitors the amount of current flow between them.
If there is any mismatch or imbalance in the flow it will sense it and react quickly.
It can sense even 4 or 5 milliamps mismatch and react with in one-thirtieth of a second.
